Dental caries or dental trauma leads to loss of substance in the teeth. After cleaning the dental caries, restorative treatments are applied to restore the tooth. “Filling” is defined as providing a tooth, which has lost its structural integrity and function, with its original function and appearance by removing the damaged tissues from the tooth.
The most basic application of the restorative dentistry is the dental filling. The dental filling treatment is carried out on the principle of replacing the intact dental tissue, which is lost for any reason.
A composite material produced with color options suitable for the natural tooth color is preferred in the dental filling. Both the physical and aesthetic properties of the composite fillings are highly developed and can serve their users for a long time.
In the application of the composite material, polymerization is provided by radiation. In this way, it is ready to use as soon as the filling treatment is finished.
What Should Be Considered After a Dental Filling?
The patient can consume food in a short time in the case that the tooth is not anaesthetized during the filling process. However, in the case that the tooth is anaesthetized, it is useful to wait for a while so as not to bite the cheek, tongue and lips.
A low level of sensitivity may occur after the filling treatment. These sensitivities, which may occur against pressure, heat and sweets, decrease and terminate within 1-2 weeks. During this period, the patients should avoid preferences that cause sensitivity.
The dental fillings are made to replace the lost tooth tissue, as we mentioned above, they are not anti-caries. If a sufficient oral hygiene is not provided, the filled teeth can decay like the other teeth.
