CYSTS

Cysts are vesicles filled with fluid and/or air. In dentistry, cysts can be located around the dental roots, in the jaw bone, in the maxillary sinuses or around the jaw joint.

Cysts are vesicles filled with fluid and/or air. In dentistry, cysts can be located around the dental roots, in the jaw bone, in the maxillary sinuses or around the jaw joint.

The reasons for the formation of cysts can be either pathological or developmental.

Pathological cysts are originated from the necrotic teeth, root parts in the jaw, wrong canal treatments, and untreated infections.

Developmental cysts, on the other hand, are located in the jaw with the proliferation of the follicle type residues called germs in the formation of the teeth.

Cysts do not show symptoms unless they are infected. Patients cannot notice them as they do not show symptoms such as pain or swelling. Therefore, we recommend to have a dental check up at least once a year and to have clinical and radiological examinations.

In the case that the cysts in the jaw are not treated, they grow within the bone. They can include the adjacent teeth in the boundaries of the anatomical surrounding formations.

Surgical treatment is preferred for the treatment of cysts. Cysts and the surrounding tissues are examined in 3 dimensions. Treating the source of the cyst is as important as removing the same. Medicines are not sufficient in the treatment of dental cysts. Medicines can only be used to support the treatment.
